Hey Friends!
Well, I’m on my planning journey for the next year, and now I’m getting excited about the Bible! Up to this point, we have already read through the entire book of Genesis and just started on the book of Acts. Mostly we’ve just been reading and discussing as we go, and then doing oral narration, copywork, and drawing. However, now I want my children to start adding biblical events to a timeline as well as mapping. Anyway, I’ve been researching free resources to use, and I’ve actually found a lot of really good ones!
This is a Free Blank Timeline that you can use with these Free Bible Timeline Picture Cards. What is fun about these is that the Timeline Pictures have pictures of events from secular history as well, so that you can better imagine exactly what was going on all over the world during the same time in Biblical History. So, you can use Bible Timeline Pictures to choose which Bible stories you want to read either from the Bible or a Bible story book, then, once you get to a Timeline Picture from secular history, you can search out a book to read about it or just watch YouTube videos about it. (One place that you can seek out free books to read about secular history during this time period is Heritage History’s Biblical Empires.) In this way, you’ll end up with a completely free Ancient History curriculum! Or, you can just print out the pictures for specific books of the Bible that you’re currently reading, and have your children cut them out and glue them into their Bible Notebooks instead of drawing. The only drawback to this Bible Timeline and the matching Timeline Pictures is that they don’t have any dates attached to them, so you’ll have to research that yourself, but perhaps these websites will help:
Here are Free Biblical Chronology Charts and Maps to add to your curriculum.
And here is a Free Bible Atlas that’s in the public domain, so it can be used any way you wish!
For those of you in Texas, the Houston Christian University has a Bible museum that you can visit as part of your study of Biblical History as well! Interestingly enough, according to this website using Ussher’s timeline of biblical history, we are only 1 to 1 and half years away from the 6,000th year since Creation! We’re definitely living in exciting times.
I hope that this gets you started building a great Biblical history curriculum for this year!
In Him,
Anna Mae
